Dubai based nu metalers, Jay Wud, are set to release their third full length album, Transitions, on June 30th. Transitions was produced by Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson (Seether, MCR, Theory of a Deadman) in Los Angeles following a $30,000 crowdfunding campaign. With the support of fans and musicians around the world, Jay Wud is set to take the world by storm with their latest release.
Surprising heaviness hits when the first track “Shine Your Light” begins. The track has an almost Alter Bridge feel to it paired with the more traditional rock style vocals of Tyler Connolly (Theory of a Deadman). The guitar work really stands out due to the unexpected thrash inspired chugginess. The second track, “Juggernaut”, is absolutely killer and reminiscent of Tremonti (Mark Tremonti’s solo project). The first 33 seconds are filled with very heavy guitar riffs, then suddenly it slows down with vocalist, Jay Wud’s whispering vocals taking center stage. Then it speeds up again with a heavier chorus. It is like an amazing roller coaster ride and really showcases Jay Wud’s vocal abilities. The attention grabber of Transitions is the instrumental track “Deception”, encompassing insane soloing paired with some very interesting rhythmic techniques making for a heavy metal/prog sound with obvious thrash metal influences.
Transitions is radio friendly rock that truly transcends genres by melding traditional rock with thrash and prog to create something quality and impressive. Definitely give this album a listen when only drops on June 30th!
