Dirty Machine is a nu metal band hailing from Los Angeles that has been on the scene since 2012. If you’re a fan of bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, and Linkin Park, this may be a band you’ll want to check out, as these bands have been influences for this talented group of guys. Discord was released on May 26, 2017, courtesy of Zombie Shark Records – so you’re not late to the game if you haven’t picked it up yet.
“Discord”, the opening track will definitely remind you of the bands previously mentioned – mixing up rap-ish vocals and singing over turntable beats, with heavier vocals accompanying at times. If you’re into a heavier sound, “Self Made Hero” will appeal to you – opening with crashing drums, heavy riffs, and throaty, growling vocals. This is a song that is going to make you sing along and think that you can hit those notes (you probably can’t.. It’s an art.. I haven’t mastered it either) but that won’t stop you from trying. “Ecusa’s Nightmare” is a little palate cleanser showing off DJ Ecusa’s mastery of the turntables and sampling – a way to turn the spotlight on what helps to support the overall sound of the album. “C4” is a song that gives off a Rage Against The Machine-esque feel to it – the beat is similar to some RATM songs, and the band actually references being a dirty machine in the lyrics. “Refuse To Follow”, a bonus track on Discord, provides a more classic metal sound to it at first, still incorporating the rapping vocals, but sticking closer to metal with steady riffs and drums, accompanied by heavier vocals. “J-Dead” another bonus song and the one wrapping up Discord, has a more haunting sound to it. In this track, the band pays a little tribute to Kansas City, a place where they have received a lot of radio play. The track boasts more rapping vocals, joined by heavy and steady drumwork with some screams as an added bonus – it is a song that will pick up then slow down before picking you back up again.
Dirty Machine frontman David Leach stated the the band was excited to join forces with Zombie Shark Records to bring back the genre that the band lives for – nu metal – and they’re accomplishing that feat with the release of Discord. This is nu metal at it’s finest – the combination of metal, beats, rap, and clean vocals. This band has combined their forces of talent to break nu metal out all over again. No matter what you’re a fan of, you’ll find something appealing to you on this album. Each track will make you want to move in different ways – you’ll want to sing along, you’ll want to rap along, and you’ll enjoy it.
