Florida’s phenomenal hardcore group Loyal Until Death is set to release their newest album, Remain Defiant, on July 7th. Formed in 2012 by guitarist Nakia Romero and vocalist Greg Lebeau (formerly of A New Belief), this band drew influence from the NYHC scene and will satiate the thirst of lovers of hardcore and metal.
The band quotes “…we wanted the music to be punishing, relentless, and unforgiving.”, which is exactly what they did. Remain Defiant will not hesitate to possess you; this raw release exudes an unfathomable amount of energy. Guitarist Nakia Romero writes the most creative, yet deceptively simple riffs ever heard, in tracks such as “The Molding of a Man”. Not only will Remain Defiant move you emotionally by way of the lyrics vocalized, but the almost jazz-influenced solos will give you goosebumps. Loyal Until Death seems to take on a Knocked Loose kind of taste; a loose-fitting, laid-back sound that is still tight enough to keep its composure, but overall easy to listen to. As a whole, (I believe) Remain Defiant will force the hardcore scene to take a step up, in order to barely step up to par with Loyal Until Death.
Loyal Until Death is raising the hardcore bar and crushing expectations with the release of Remain Defiant. If you pick up this album and are expecting a run of the mill hardcore sound, you’ll be sorely disappointed in the best way. Progressive, edgy and raw, this is an album you will not want to pass by.
