Linkin Park is another band that I grew up listening to. They were one of my favorites back in the day. Another band you would’ve heard me blaring really as I drove past you when I was a senior in high school (when Hybrid Theory came out).
“Good Goodbye” reminds me of old Linkin Park. Lots of vocals mixed in with ever changing beats. It features Pusha T and Stormzy. It is always cool when artists from different genres can collaborate on a song together. “Heavy” is the first single that was released from One More Light. This single features Kiiara. This song is super poppy and definitely not what you what expect from Linkin Park. This one will take myself and others some time getting used to. “Halfway Right” ….again, it’s not what you would normally hear from Chester or Mike. It’s an interesting track, I can’t say that I hate it but I don’t really love it either. Lyrically it is very good.
“One More Light” is a pretty deep track. The lyrics on this song are amazing. Even though Chester sings without the past LP sound we are all used to, it’s still amazing. “Sharp Edges” – I love this song. It reminds me of my son and how often I have to tell him not to do certain things. I know he’ll learn from his mistakes. But still, I always have to tell him over and over because he never listens the first time. This is my favorite track on One More Light.
I’m one of those people who likes bands – no matter what, even if I don’t like their new music. I’ll use Incubus as an example. I remember when A Crow Left Of The Murder came out. My brother bought me the CD for my birthday, they were always my FAVORITE band. I loved anything and everything that Brandon Boyd sang. But I remember specifically putting the CD into my CD player and thinking WTF?!?! I didn’t like it at first. It grew on the more I listened to it. It’s an album that I still listen to.
Linkin Park has received a lot of criticism for One More Light, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to listen to the album without any of that clouding my judgement. We’ve been through this so many times, with so many different bands. It happens whether we like it or not, our favorite artist decides to take their music in a new direction…and critics nor fans know exactly what to do with it. This is the case with One More Light, it is Linkin Park but a new Linkin Park. I’m not quite sure what to do with it but maybe the rest of the album will grow on me?
