Essex based animated band, Gorrilaz, released their new album Humanz on April 28th. Having an almost cult following, Gorrilaz create an interesting style of mixed electronic music and alternative rock. Formed in 1998 by musicians Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlitt, the group consists of animated member 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel Hobbes.

From the get go Humanz is in true Gorillaz style.  A strange 23 second intro track is followed by the first song “Ascension”.  Humanz is filled with up-tempo rap and funky tracks, it’s quite reminiscent of older music by the group. 2-D’s unique monotone voice is catchy as always, combined with interesting vocal melodies Gorillaz are known for. Groovy bass lines with ambient piano tracks show for another quality album from Gorillaz. One stranger tracks on Humanz is “Sex Murder Party with a heavy techno track and strange vocals throughout. Not really the typical style from them, but awesome nonetheless.
