Vancouver based metal barons Bison are releasing their new album You Are Not The Ocean You Are The Patient on July 7, 2017. This is the band’s first full length release to feature bassist Shane Clark, formerly of 3 Inches of Blood. This is the band’s fourth full length album.
You Are Not The Ocean You Are The Patient opens with “Until The Earth Is Empty”, with groove-filled riffs and a punk vibe to the track. The vocals kick in and are reminiscent of a harder punk sounding anthem, one from days of old that would have all the punk rockers jamming along. This type of sound continues in song “Anti War”, the next track on the album. The beats are fast paced, inducing headbanging at different paces, complimented by the range of vocals displayed overhead. More metal tones follow with the next few songs. “Kenopsia” provides an intriguing mix of riffs and drums, and lower tones than the first few songs on the album, a melodic mashup that will make you move. “Raiigin” contains the dirtiest riffs on the album, a slow, teasing buildup into the song, continuing all the way through. But the band doesn’t stop there – “The Water Becomes Fire” boasts extremely sexy guitars and slow, supporting drumbeats.
You Are Not The Ocean You Are The Patient is an album that is going to make you move in all the best ways – you’ll headbang, you’ll toe tap, you’ll want to groove – and you should. You’ll want to chant along at the top of your lungs – do it. Bison is diverse and talented and doesn’t let boredom creep in. They hit you with some punk, they hit you with some groove, they hit you with some dirty beats – you’ll be hard pressed not to move.
